Libraries Vital to Success of Cities & Counties

This year, the library is celebrating 70 years of existence. In the pre-Internet, pre-computer days, libraries were the main and sometimes only resource in a town for in-depth information on any given subject. Back in the day of only three TV channels and no live streaming, libraries provided a valuable source of entertainment–books.

Each town struggled to maintain their own library. It was through the unification of libraries in different towns and developing a distribution system between branches that libraries began to flourish.

Wanda Brown, library benefactor and familiar face in the Harrisonville library, has died

Mrs. Wanda Brown (June 16, 1918 – December 2, 2015) was a longtime benefactor of Cass County Public Library and supporter of the public library in our community. Among other contributions, she donated the funds to expand the children’s area of the Harrisonville library and to create a designated story time area. Below, Harrisonville Branch children’s specialist, Sara Steinmetz, marks Mrs. Brown’s recent passing and commemorates her contributions to the library and the Harrisonville community.
