Library Assistant (Part-Time) – Genealogy Harrisonville

General Description

This position performs various duties as assigned in the operation of the library including providing quality customer service, performing circulation duties and making decisions on how best to assist library users.

Work involves responsibility for a variety of circulation procedures, including charging library materials to patrons, handling overdue fines and fees accurately, maintaining patron records and registering new patrons. This position requires working with patrons in a positive, competent and courteous manner and maintaining patron confidentiality at all times. The work requires that the employee have good knowledge, skill and ability in every phase of library circulation functions.

This position also understands, accepts and actively promotes the vision, mission and goals of Cass County Public Library. Staff members are expected to interact with patrons and fellow employees in a friendly, courteous and respectful manner.

IT Library Specialist (Part-Time) – Administrative Offices
Seeking a highly motivated and solution-driven individual to join our IT team. This position works as a member of the support team responsible for operating, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the technology and telecommunications infrastructure of the library system with excellent public service communication skills. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to, managing the software licensing of the library, identifying and repairing equipment problems, updating software, assisting in training staff/patrons, troubleshooting and maintenance of the patron time management software, assisting with maintenance of both the wired and wireless networks, and set up/maintenance on both audio and video systems. This position exhibits a positive attitude and interacts with other employees in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner. 

  • High school graduate or equivalent with forty-eight hours of college credit primarily related to computer science and two years of job-related experience. 
  • Experience may be substituted for college credit.  
  • Prefer a computer-related degree or formal training in the area of PCs and networking.  
  • A+ Certification preferred.  
  • Experience in customer service. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Youth Specialist (Part-Time) – Garden City
Part-time youth specialist – 20 hours per week, including night(s) and Saturdays on rotation. $16.75/hr. This position requires candidates who are enthusiastic about working with youth in a variety of ages and stages and their families. Specific responsibilities include providing storytimes for toddlers and preschoolers, programming for children and teens, building relationships with local community groups, and assisting with the maintenance of youth collections. Friendliness, good judgment, and a sense of humor are essential. Other job duties include checking items in and out for library patrons, shelving items, locating items for patrons, assisting visitors on computers and other devices, and answering general reference questions.
A two-year or four-year degree from a recognized college in education or related field plus some library experience preferred.
