Youth Specialist – Archie

Status: Part time/Non-exempt 20 hours per week
Location: Archie
Pay: $18.75 an hour
Reports to: Branch Manager

Cass County Public Library is seeking a creative and energetic Youth Specialist to join our Archie Branch team! This role focuses on providing fun, educational, and engaging library services and programs for children and teens (ages 0–17) and their families.

The Youth Specialist will:

  • Plan and lead storytimes, outreach events, and summer reading programs.
  • Create a welcoming environment for youth and families.
  • Build connections with local schools and community groups.
  • Support patrons with reader’s advisory, technology, and library services.

  • Ability to plan and deliver creative programs.
  • Degree in education or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

Library Assistant – Drexel Branch & Outreach Services

Status: Part-time; Non-exempt

Hours: Up to 30 hours per week. Scheduled hours may vary based on operational needs and may range from 0–30 hours per week. Shifts may include days, evenings, and Saturdays.

Pay: $17.75 per hour

Locations: Drexel Branch and Outreach Services (Harrisonville/Drexel, Missouri)

Benefits: Paid time off

Work Setting: In-person

Reports to:  Branch Manager

General Description

The Library Assistant supports daily library operations by providing friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable service to library users. This position is assigned to both the Drexel Branch and Outreach Services and will be scheduled hours in both locations based on service needs.

Work includes routine circulation and patron services, assistance with library technology, and support of library programs and outreach services. Outreach assignments are more physically demanding and may involve lifting, bending, and working in mobile or off-site environments.

This position understands, accepts, and actively promotes the mission, values, and goals of the Cass County Public Library. The Library Assistant exhibits a positive attitude and interacts with patrons, coworkers, and community members in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous and accurate circulation services, including checking materials in and out and assisting with patron accounts.
  • Assist patrons with basic reference questions, readers’ advisory, and library technology.
  • Support branch operations, including shelving, materials handling, and maintaining an orderly and welcoming environment.
  • Assist with library programs, events, and outreach services.
  • Support Outreach Services, including lobby stops, Library by Mail, and community outreach activities.
  • Load, transport, and handle book totes and outreach materials.
  • Communicate service-related information with staff to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Perform other related duties in support of library operations as assigned.

Outreach & Vehicle Responsibilities

  • May include occasional driving of the library’s Class A Bookmobile or outreach vehicles.
  • A CDL is not required.
  • Outreach work may require additional physical activity and working in a variety of environments throughout the county.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to provide consistent, courteous customer service.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn library technology and systems.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules and locations as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (college coursework preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, reach, stoop, and bend during daily duties.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing approximately 25–50 pounds.
  • Outreach assignments are more physically demanding than branch-only assignments.

Additional Information

This is an in-person position. Employees will be scheduled hours in both Drexel and Outreach locations based on operational needs.

Custodian (Weekends) — 3 Hours/Week

Status: Part-time; Non-exempt
Schedule: Weekends (3 hours total per week). Exact timing is flexible (early morning or evening) when the building is closed to the public.
Location: Drexel
Pay: $15.50 an hour

About the Role

We’re seeking a reliable weekend custodian to keep our facility clean, safe, and welcoming. This is a great fit for someone who wants a short, steady weekly shift with flexible weekend timing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms; restock supplies.
  • Empty trash and recycling throughout the building.
  • Sweep/mop hard floors; vacuum carpets and entry mats.
  • Dust/wipe surfaces, fixtures, doors, and high-touch areas.
  • Spot clean windows/doors and remove smudges/marks.
  • Check meeting rooms and public areas; return furniture to standard layout.
  • Secure the building upon completion (lights/doors) per checklist.
  • Safely use and store cleaning chemicals and equipment; report supply needs and maintenance issues.
  • Communicate with the branch manager about needs/concerns/changes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Reliable, independent worker with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow checklists and safety procedures.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs and perform repetitive motions (standing, bending, reaching) for up to 3 hours.
  • At least 18 years of age; prior custodial experience preferred but not required.
  • Dependable transportation and weekend availability.
  • Willing to complete a background check.
