Full Time – Payroll & Benefits Specialist – Administration Office
Starting Pay: $18.00
General Description
Cass County Public Library is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, benefits administration, and a smooth onboarding experience for new employees.
The ideal candidate is organized, confidential, and comfortable working with data, HR systems, and staff across multiple branches. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with payroll or benefits experience who enjoys helping employees and ensuring accuracy in HR operations.
Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
- Maintain payroll records; audit timesheets and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist employees with benefit enrollment, life events, and questions.
- Coordinate open enrollment and update benefits documentation.
- Support FMLA tracking, COBRA, and return-to-work processes.
- Complete new-hire onboarding (I-9s, tax forms, direct deposit, ADP setup).
- Maintain accurate payroll and benefits data in ADP Workforce Now.
- Prepare reports for budgeting, audits, and compliance.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with FLSA, FMLA, ACA, and IRS rules.
Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in payroll processing, benefits administration, or related HR operations.
- Associate degree in HR, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred; experience may substitute for education.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work respectfully with employees.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, PHR, or APA FPC preferred but not required.

Full Time – Branch Manager – Harrisonville
Hours: 40 hours per week, including evening shifts and rotating Saturdays.
Starting Pay Range: $25.25 to $28.25 per hour.
Cass County Public Library is seeking a service-oriented and community-focused Branch Manager to lead one of its larger branch locations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to manage a busy library that serves a population of 8,000 or more residents and plays a key role in delivering responsive, high-quality library services in a growing community.
About the Role
The Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of branch operations, including facility management, public service delivery, programming, and staff supervision. This position leads a team of seven or more employees and has a dedicated Children’s and Teen Specialist. The Branch Manager ensures that the branch remains a welcoming, well-organized, and engaging hub of learning and community connection.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who is passionate about public service and skilled at building strong staff teams, engaging the community, and promoting library resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day branch operations, scheduling, and public service hours to ensure efficient, high-quality service delivery.
- Supervise and support a team of seven or more staff, including a Children’s Specialist and Teen Specialist; provide coaching, evaluations, and ongoing professional development.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment aligned with the library’s mission and values.
- Coordinate, promote, and evaluate adult, teen, and children’s programming that reflects community interests and supports literacy, learning, and engagement.
- Handle patron concerns with professionalism; ensure consistent application of library policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility.
- Oversee local collection development and ensure current and appealing displays throughout the year.
- Collaborate with local schools, organizations, and community groups to promote library services and lead outreach efforts.
- Monitor and approve staff schedules and timekeeping; ensure appropriate staffing levels and coverage.
- Contribute to system-wide planning initiatives, policy development, and goal setting; attend meetings and trainings to stay current on best practices.
- Prepare and submit required reports, statistics, and activity updates in a timely and accurate manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
- Candidates in their final semester of an accredited MLS/MLIS program may also be considered.
- Alternatively, a master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Public Administration, Business) with 1–3 years of supervisory experience may be accepted.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team in a fast-paced, service-focused environment.
