Cass County Public Library Moves Forward with Property Acquisition for Harrisonville Branch and Administrative Office
Harrisonville, MO (March 5, 2025) –
The Cass County Public Library Board has voted to move forward with the acquisition of a 2 acre plat at the corner of Locust Street and Locust Terrace, contingent upon successful inspections, property surveys, and approval from the City of Harrisonville. This exciting development will pave the way for a new home for the library’s administration office and a new, modern branch in Harrisonville.
This acquisition will be funded through a bond issuance from revenue that the library is already making thanks to the approval of Proposition L. Not only will this bond issuance aid in financing the move for Harrisonville Branch and Administration staff, but it will potentially pay towards other capital improvement projects for the library system as a whole – providing the community with the chance to enjoy the results of the levy that they passed and have paid into now rather than later.
While still in the early stages of planning, the new facility will feature a range of modern amenities designed to better serve the community. Cass County Public Library will be partnering with architect Clark & Enersen, a collaboration that will aid in bringing fresh and dynamic spaces to the community. The library plans for the Harrisonville Branch to include a convenient drive-thru for quick and easy access, as well as dedicated study spaces for individual and group work. A larger programming and meeting space will allow the library to host a variety of events and community gatherings, while an outdoor area will offer a relaxing and functional space for patrons to enjoy. Additionally, the plan is for the branch to include a dedicated children’s area that will be both engaging and educational for young visitors.
The library is committed to making this new facility a valuable resource for the community, and the project is still on track for completion within the next 3 to 5 years. The board continues to work closely with city officials and contractors to ensure the success of the project and to provide a modern, accessible, and welcoming space for residents of all ages.
“We are super excited to be moving forward and provide the community some of the promises presented in Proposition L,” Board President Tonya Long said.
The library will continue to provide updates as the acquisition process moves forward and the project begins to take shape.
