Introducing Universal Class

Patrons now have access to Universal Class, where they can find over 500 classes on a variety of topics. Courses also count as CEUs (Continuing Education Units) and are accessible 24/7. Patrons can take full courses with assessments or access video-only versions for more casual learning.

Getting Started with Universal Class

The first time you access Universal Class, you will need to register for an account by clicking the Register Now button.

This will direct you to a screen instructing you to sign up through Libby. Click the second link to access it on your computer. Universal Class is best viewed on a desktop or laptop computer.

Follow the prompts to find or search for Cass County Public Library. Then, sign in with your library card number and PIN. Your PIN is typically the last four digits of your phone number, unless you have changed it.

After signing into Libby, scroll down until you see Universal Class under Extras.

  1. Click GET.
  2. Confirm your library information and click Open! on the next screen.
  3. Click the Get Access button on the next screen.
  4. Click Continue to Universal Class in the window that appears.

This will return you to the Register/Sign In screen.

After gaining access to Universal Class through Libby, you will need to create an account with your email address. This will also allow you to track progress on your courses.
Click the Register Now button.

Fill out the form, click the appropriate Age Check option, agree to the terms of service, and click Continue >>. From now on, you can sign in with your email address and password. No need to go through Libby again

After you sign in, you will see any classes you are currently taking, course recommendations, categories at the bottom, and a navigation menu on the left. You can also browse courses at the top.

When you find a course you would like to take, click on the title to see a description, number of lessons, average completion time, and number of CEUs (Continuing Education Units). You can also see if there is a video audit of the course. Video audits do not have assessments or homework, but also do not count as CEUs. You can scroll down the page to find what the assignments for the course and reviews from other students.

To start the course, click + Join this Course. A confirmation will appear asking if you would like to join the certificate class or the video-only course, if applicable.

After joining the course, you can perform the required readings, watch the videos, take any assessments, and save your work. You can always return to where you left off.
