It’s Tax Season Again!

Tax season is here again, and this year, a lot has changed. Be sure to have your taxes ready for the April 15th deadline.

Late in 2017, Congress passed a sweeping new tax bill changing many things in our tax code. Tax brackets have changed; deductions have changed; some former exemptions can no longer be claimed; and some credits have altered or disappeared. Just as we shared last year, here is a side by side comparison of the code before and after the law: https://www.factcheck.org/2017/12/guide-tax-changes/. At the state level, Missouri also passed a tax bill in 2018, making more changes for the state. Find out more here.

This year, there is only one federal form to file: the 1040. There is no A or EZ this year. The form is also shorter, but you may need to check out the revised tax schedules to help: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/schedules-for-form-1040.

If you or someone you know needs help filing taxes, AARP volunteers will be at our Harrisonville branch and Northern Resource Center through April helping individuals file their taxes:
