Tax season is officially here!
Following the January tax law changes made by Congress under the American Taxpayer Relief Act, the IRS announced that it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on January 30, 2013.
However, you may have trouble getting all the forms you need by that date. Many federal tax forms were delayed this year due to the recent changes in the tax code. Some forms are still undergoing revisions as of today. You can check the IRS website at www.irs.gov/Forms-&-Pubs to see which forms have been released for the 2012 tax year.
Many of the more commonly used federal forms will soon be available at your library branch, and library staff can help you obtain other forms online as they are ready. You will need to identify the form you need by either number or name. (We are not qualified to help you decide which form you need. Only licensed tax professionals can offer this advice.)

In February, the AARP Foundation will begin preparing tax returns for senior citizens and low income individuals at our Harrisonville and Northern Resources Center branches.
Contact either branch directly for information on setting an appointment date and time.
For up-to-date information on federal filings, visit the IRS News & Events page to review changes as they are made.
Missouri state tax forms are found online at the Missouri Department of Revenue website.
Many happy returns,
Diane Christensen, Harrisonville Branch Manager
