Seed library now open for business in Harrisonville
If you stop by the Harrisonville library this week, you will find the newest addition: The Seed Library.
The library is currently offering more than 75 varieties of heirloom, organic seeds to patrons planning their gardens. The seeds that we offer come from Seed Savers Heritage Farm, a special not-for-profit program sponsored by Seed Savers Exchange.
The Seed Library works very simply; patrons come into the library, checkout seeds, grow their crop, harvest and return seeds for the coming year. We have everything from Country Gentleman corn introduced in 1890 with its white shoe peg kernels, to Riesentraube tomatoes and Velvet Queen sunflowers. We hope that once the growing season is over, the patrons will harvest the plant’s seeds and return these seeds to the Harrisonville Public Library for future growing seasons.
Seed sharing enriches our community, promotes good health and preserves our age-old gardening heritage. Stop by the Harrisonville Public Library today! 400 East Mechanic, Harrisonville MO.
