Wanda Brown, library benefactor and familiar face in the Harrisonville library, has died

Mrs. Wanda Brown (June 16, 1918 – December 2, 2015) was a longtime benefactor of Cass County Public Library and supporter of the public library in our community. Among other contributions, she donated the funds to expand the children’s area of the Harrisonville library and to create a designated story time area. Below, Harrisonville Branch children’s specialist, Sara Steinmetz, marks Mrs. Brown’s recent passing and commemorates her contributions to the library and the Harrisonville community.

Wanda Brown’s likeness adorns a mural in the children’s area of the Harrisonville library. Even after her recent passing, her generous contributions to the library continue to benefit the children of our community.

For the past nine years I have had a kind pair of eyes watching over me as I work.

If you have been in our children’s library you have noticed a friendly face painted on our cupboards. I am always happy to tell people who ask that the woman keeping watch at library is Mrs. Wanda Brown.

She and her family have been very generous over the years. The families of Harrisonville would not be able to enjoy the excellent children’s facility that we have if not for her generosity. As recently as this spring Mrs. Brown donated funds to purchase LEGOs for our popular LEGO program.

I never had the privilege of meeting her, but I was saddened to hear of her recent passing. The children of Harrisonville have much to be grateful for, thanks to the kind eyes smiling from the cupboard doors.
