Blast Off Into a Universe of Stories!

Summer Reading is back! The program officially starts on June 3rd, but you can sign up starting Monday, May 20th. This year, attend out-of-this-world events made possible by the contributions of area community partners and businesses. No matter what branch you visit regularly, there will be something for all ages during this year’s program, A Universe of Stories.

Patrons can register online and download their reading logs. There is a limit of one registration per patron, and patrons can only participate at one branch.

Everyone has until July 27th to complete the summer reading program.

Children & Teens

Just like past years, children and teens read (or listen to) books to earn a free new book of their choice, along with other prizes at each branch. Prizes can be picked up starting Monday, June 10th.

  • Pre-Readers, those not yet reading on their own, will earn their book once they have 25 books read to them or have 500 minutes of being read to.
  • Readers, up to 5th Grade, will earn their book by reading 10 books or completing 500 minutes of reading.
  • Teens will earn their book by reading 5 books or completing 500 minutes of reading.

The fun doesn’t stop there, though. This year, we’ve added BONUS PLAY. After kids and teens have completed the above requirements, they can stop in their local branch and grab bonus play tickets. For each additional 100 minutes of reading, children and teens can earn an entry into county-wide drawings. Prizes include Worlds of Fun tickets, a space projector, and many other space-themed items. Patrons can complete up to 5 bonus play tickets.

Sign up and download your reading log here. Don’t forget to stop in your local branch to receive your registration packet!

Adults

Back by popular demand, the Adult Summer Reading Program allows adults to get in on the fun. Adult patrons can participate in the Adult Summer Reading Expedition, a challenge-based program that encourages patrons to read and explore library resources. Challenges include reading, using library resources, and attending events.

When an adult has read or listened to 3 books, they earn their first entry into a branch prize drawing. They earn another entry for each additional book read or listened to by July 27th. There are also side missions with specific challenges. If you fill out your entire “captain’s log,” you will receive 20 total entries into your branch’s prize drawing. Be sure to bring the captain’s log back to your branch so that you can receive your entries!
