Big Changes Coming to the Catalog

On August 27, 2018, Cass County Public Library will be joining Missouri Evergreen, a consortium of 30+ libraries throughout the state of Missouri. Missouri Evergreen will give patrons a new catalog and access to more materials. That means that CCPL will be leaving the Kansas City Library Consortium and the current catalog.

Missouri Evergreen is not only a new online catalog, but also a way for Missouri libraries to more easily share their collections. By joining the Missouri Evergreen consortium, Cass County patrons will have access to over 2 million items, compared to about 800,000 items, currently. The Missouri Evergreen collection and consortium continues to grow, and we hope that patrons will be able to find, receive, and borrow the materials they need just as easy, if not, easier than they can right now.

None of our checkout periods or renewal policies will change, and overdue fines will remain the same. There will be no need to get a new library card because the Evergreen system works with our current library cards. Patrons will still be able to look up items online and access eBooks and eAudiobooks through Libby or OverDrive. In fact, all that will really change is what the catalog looks like. Being the primary way in which our patrons find items in the library, we will have classes available for the public in August and September. For a preview of what the catalog will look like, watch the video below, created by one of our new partner libraries, Scenic Regional Library, outside of St. Louis.

Because of the transition, Cass County patrons will not be able to place holds on items from other KC Consortium libraries starting on July 1st. Any holds on KCPL items will be removed at that time as well. This is in preparation for our switch in August. However, library staff will still be able to place requests for items through Inter-Library Loan. We want to provide patrons with as much access to materials as we can through the transition.

We are very excited to join Missouri Evergreen and what it means for our patrons. Check out our FAQs page for more information. If you have any more questions throughout the process, don’t hesitate to talk to your library’s staff! We’re always here to help.
