Libraries Vital to Success of Cities & Counties

This year, the library is celebrating 70 years of existence. In the pre-Internet, pre-computer days, libraries were the main and sometimes only resource in a town for in-depth information on any given subject. Back in the day of only three TV channels and no live streaming, libraries provided a valuable source of entertainment–books.

Each town struggled to maintain their own library. It was through the unification of libraries in different towns and developing a distribution system between branches that libraries began to flourish.

Author Event: Nancy Pickard

Join us at Centerview Community Event Space in Raymore, MO for an evening with Ms. Pickard. She is the only author to receive all four major mystery awards, and her latest novel, The Scent of Rain and Lightning, was made into a movie in March of this year. She will speak about her career and writing, and will be available to sign books that attendees bring. The Friends group is proud to host this special event, and hopes that area residents will take advantage of this opportunity to meet Nancy Pickard.

Joining a book club in your community is a great way to find new reads and broaden your reading interests. It’s also a great way to meet the people in your community. Whether or not everyone in the book club enjoys a book, you can be sure there will be lively discussion. Cass County Public Library offers book clubs at most branches.

Area chambers hold a ribbon cutting for the new location of the library in Belton

The new location of the Northern Resource Center opened on November 14, 2016. The Library Board of Trustees and the Chambers of Commerce of Belton, Raymore and Peculiar held a ribbon cutting on November 30th to mark the occasion.
