The 100 Missouri Miles Challenge comes to Cass County

Sign up to participate in the Be Well Cass County group of the 100 Missouri Miles Challenge and stop by the Harrisonville library to pick up your free welcome kit that includes instructions for a how to register and log your miles online, a water bottle to stay hydrated, and a pedometer to track your miles. The six week program will begin on Monday, Aug 11 and run through the week of September 15th. Registered participants are entered to win iPods, FitBits and other great prizes given out every week of the program.

Racing to Read: An Early Literacy Program

Racing to Read is a program that educates parents on early literacy skills in fun and interactive ways. Pajama Storytime has become a Racing to Read program that incorporates these early literacy skills. Beyond storytime, our children’s specialist, Ms. Sara Steinmetz, is going out and promoting early literacy in the community. She will be visiting Harrisonville Head Start and Thunderbird Apartments later on this month.

Join the Summer Reading Program, starting June 2nd

2014 Summer Reading Program is open for children and teens up to twelfth grade. This year we are learning about science as the Cass County Public Library presents “Fizz, Boom, Read!” Join us for our exciting programs that are fun for the whole family. Each branch will also have weekly storytimes with crafts and activities. Thanks to our community partners whose contributions help the library branches provide these programs.

Library of Congress dignitary visits Cass County historical display

Donald Scott, Deputy Librarian of Congress Emeritus and Library of Congress Trustee, attended the unveiling of the new Stern Visitations of War in Cass County exhibit unveiling in Harrisonville. Scott is a retired Brig. General with the United States Army and is also on the board of Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area which cosponsored the project with Cass County Historical Society and the library.
