2018 National Library Week

April 8-14 is National Library Week this year. Throughout this week, libraries are celebrated for their impact and influence in their communities. It is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. Here’s what’s happening:

Logging Onto Library Computers and Wireless Printing

Starting this month, you will notice all library branches will have a new way for patrons to log onto library computers. Cass County Public Library received a grant to install a new computer and print management system called Cybrarian. The system will also allow patrons to print to library printers from any device.

Libraries Vital to Success of Cities & Counties

This year, the library is celebrating 70 years of existence. In the pre-Internet, pre-computer days, libraries were the main and sometimes only resource in a town for in-depth information on any given subject. Back in the day of only three TV channels and no live streaming, libraries provided a valuable source of entertainment–books.

Each town struggled to maintain their own library. It was through the unification of libraries in different towns and developing a distribution system between branches that libraries began to flourish.

Archie Re-Opens After Flooding

After nearly 2 weeks of hard work cleaning up flood damage, the Archie branch has re-opened! In the early morning hours of July 27th, the Kansas City area experienced heavy rains. South Cass County received over 7 inches in just 4 hours, causing many areas to flood, including parts of Archie, MO. The Police Station, City Hall, and Library, all located on south Main Street, had between 4 and 30 inches of water inside. The library had about 6 inches of water inside, and had books, computer equipment, and furniture damaged by the water.
