Harrisonville Mystery Book Club

The Harrisonville Mystery Book club met on September 7th to discuss Death by Cashmere by Sally Goldenbaum.  This mystery cozy revolves around a knitting club that  also spends a lot of time cooking up good food!   The book club enjoyed reading this story, although between all the cooking and visiting it was hard for the group to see how the knitting projects got done!  The group is currently reading A Slice of Murder by Chris Cavender.  They will discuss this book at the next Mystery Book Club meeting on October 5.  Come join in the discussion at the Harrisonville Branch!  Books are available to check out at the branch.

Harrisonville General Book Club

The Harrisonville General Book Club met last week and had an interesting
discussion over the book Red Leaves by Thomas Cook.  The recent investigation into the murder of a local woman in our own community made the story relevant to our readers and elicited an unnerving emotional response to the question of how well we know our own family members. Next month the group will read Rainbow Trail by Zane Grey, an exciting western story of captivity, treachery, and last-minute escape. Come join in the discussion at the Harrisonville Branch library on Monday, August 15th at 6:30 p.m. Books are available for checkout at the Harrisonville library.

Harrisonville Brown Bag Book Club

The Harrisonville Brown Bag Book Club enjoyed reading Saving
CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. This book provoked discussion
of growing up, forgiveness, and the value of enjoying life. This was the first book by Beth Hoffman, and the group would welcome another book by this author (especially if it continues CeeCee’s story). For the next meeting on August 15th (at noon), the group will read Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson. Bring your lunch and join us for a lively discussion at the at the Harrisonville library

Harrisonville General Book Club

The Harrisonville General Book Club met Monday to discuss the book Bringing
Down the House by Ben Mezrich. The club was intrigued by this story of the seamier side of Las Vegas, where six MIT students used their own brains to beat the system - and got away with it!  This was a good book which provided the substance for a great discussion. The club meets again on July 18th at 6:30 p.m., when the discussion will center on Red Leaves by Thomas Cook.  In this story, Eric Moore has a stable life in a quiet town. Then his teenage son is asked to babysit the eight-year-old daughter of a neighboring family. The next morning, the girl comes up missing and Eric isn’t sure that his son is innocent. Caught in a vortex of doubt and lies, Eric must find out what happened to the girl before his – and the community’s - suspicions are proved right.  You are invited to join this book discussion at the Harrisonville library!

Harrisonville Brown Bag Book Club

The Harrisonville Brown Bag Book Club met Monday to discuss the book
Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews. The club really enjoyed this light summer read which provided a little mystery, some laughs and touched on more serious topics.  The club meets again on July 18th at noon, when the discussion will center on Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. In this story, a twelve-year-old girl is cast in the role of caretaker for her psychotic mother (who is re-living her past as the 1951 Vidalia Onion Queen). After her mother’s death, a previously unknown great-aunt Tootie whisks CeeCee away to Savannah; and to a very different life where she is surrounded by fascinating women and new possibilities. Bring your lunch and join the discussion at the Harrisonville library!
