Join the Summer Reading Program, starting June 2nd

Fizz! Boom! Read! for our science-themed Summer Reading Program.

2014 Summer Reading Program is open for children and teens up to twelfth grade. This year we are learning about science as the Cass County Public Library presents “Fizz, Boom, Read!” Join us for our exciting programs that are fun for the whole family. Each branch will also have weekly storytimes with crafts and activities. Thanks to our community partners whose contributions help the library branches provide these programs.

Readers who complete the summer reading program goals by the July deadline will receive a new book of their choice! For pre-readers the goal is 25 read-to-me books while readers through fifth grade are encouraged to complete 10 books on their own. For those in grades six through twelve, the goal is to complete 5 books.

Many students are losing months of learning during summer break. Studies show that participation in a Summer Reading Program can improve reading proficiency and prevent loss in reading achievement over the summer months. Our mission at the Cass County Public Library is to provide fun activities and incentives to promote an overall goal of improving and maintaining literacy throughout the summer.

Through a partnership with parents and care givers, we can help enhance reading skills and prepare young minds for the next school year. The excitement of completion of the program and a new award book promotes enjoyment of reading and can make a great impact for many years to come.

Dare to experiment with reading at your local library this summer with resources, activities and programs at Archie, Drexel, Garden City, Harrisonville, the Northern Resource Center in Belton, Pleasant Hill and the Bookmobile. Dates and times of specific Summer Reading Programs are posted on the branch calendars of events at the Cass County Public Library website at casscolibrary.org.
